AUDUBON CANYON RANCH'S INVASIVE PLANT EXPERT TO GIVE KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT 9TH ANNUAL WAR ON WEEDS
November 9, 2007-Monterey, CA - Audubon Canyon Ranch (ACR), a leader in conservation science, habitat restoration and hands-on environmental education programs, announced today that its Habitat and Restoration Specialist, Daniel Gluesenkamp, Ph.D, will give the keynote address at the 9th Annual War on Weeds on November 16, 2007 at 9a.m at Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB). Hosted by the Monterey County Weed Management Area and CSUMB's Watershed Institute, the War on Weeds conference will provide information on invasive plants, weed control and management.
Gluesenkamp will speak on the advances in early detection of invasive plants. At ACR's preserves in Marin and Sonoma, Gluesenkamp leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of conservation and restoration projects. Gluesenkamp's work involves experimental evaluation of management techniques, oversight of stewardship activities such as control of invasive alien species, and collaboration with neighboring land owners and agencies to protect ACR lands. Gluesenkamp's research focuses on plant communities, particularly as related to the invasion and spread of introduced species, ranging from desert riparian zones to subalpine Sierran meadows.
Gluesenkamp also serves as the president of California's Invasive Plant Council (Cal-IPC).
