Audubon Canyon Ranch to acquire new preserve in Sonoma County

Audubon Canyon Ranch has signed a collaborative agreement to acquire the 1,725-acre Modini Ranch property through a planned giving arrangement with current owners Jim and Shirley Modini. ACR is honored the Modinis have entrusted us to protect this special part of California's natural heritage.

The property is located in Sonoma County's Mayacamas Mountains near Healdsburg. ACR will conduct conservation-based scientific research and identify habitat protection opportunities, in keeping with ACR's mission to preserve the land as a sanctuary for native plants and animals.

For more information on this and other ACR preserves, please visit ACR's website.

ACR's long-time Executive Director to transition from his role, search for new leader underway

After 34 years, Skip Schwartz will transition from his role as Audubon Canyon Ranch's Executive Director. In January 2010, Skip will be stepping away from the day-to-day management of operations. Skip will continue in a part-time role with ACR, working on projects as directed by ACR's next Executive Director. He will continue to be involved, working closely with the new ED.

Audubon Canyon Ranch will extend our tradition of exceptional leadership and is beginning a search for the right person. You can help us find ACR's next Executive Director by reviewing the job description at www.egret.org and sending it to anyone you believe is qualified to work with a dedicated volunteer cadre, professional staff, and supporters to move ACR to the next level.

Bolinas Lagoon Preserve heronry update

It's high season at the heronry! Egret chicks are hatching, cliff swallows are incubating, shorebirds line the Bolinas Lagoon, and wildflowers are blooming.

Come out to West Marin to take a short hike up the canyon for a rare bird's-eye view into an active Great Egret nesting site.

Bolinas Lagoon Preserve is open on weekends/holidays (10 am to 4 pm, no appointment necessary) and weekdays by appointment.

ACR strengthens its fund development team

In response to a strategic plan that focuses on organizational growth and revenue development, we are pleased to announce two significant changes to the fundraising team of Audubon Canyon Ranch.

  • Didi Wilson joins us as the new Director of Development and Communications. Didi has spent the majority of her professional career in the non-profit sector, holding multiple executive and board-level positions. Didi is a longtime resident of Marin County and an avid hiker, painter and beachcomber. Welcome, Didi!
  • Congratulations to Cassie Gruenstein, who, after serving as Director of Development and Communications since 2002, has moved into her new role as Director of Major Gifts. We're pleased to be growing our great team of donor relations staff.

We hope you will consider making a gift to Audubon Canyon Ranch this spring and remember ACR in your estate plans.
