• Modini Mayacamas Preserves

Join us for this big hike - 7 miles and 1,440 feet of elevation gain, with a few rough stretches - along the historic Foss Stagecoach Trail and around to Red Hill. Peter Leveque, retired Junior College Professor and the guiding force behind early stewardship and education on the Preserves, will regale us with stories of local natural history, ecology and conservation history. Denny Fujita, retired Junior College Chemistry Professor and Foss Trail history enthusiast, will tell us about Clark Foss and the stagecoach days. Dave Self, Botanist and ACR Resource Ecologist, will encourage a closer look at habitat history as recorded in the vegetation of the Preserves. Expect to see fawn lilies, lots of other wildflowers and views, too.

Hike leaders: Dave Self, ACR Resource Ecologist; Peter Leveque, retired JC Biology Professor; and Denny Fujita, retired JC Chemistry Professor.

Tickets: $20 non-member / $15 member or student / FREE for children under age 18. Fees support the preservation, education and conservation science programs of Audubon Canyon Ranch. Learn more about membership.

The Modini Mayacamas Preserves This private nature sanctuary, owned and managed by Audubon Canyon Ranch, has a range of different public access opportunities. Pine Flat Road, a public county road with pullouts, meanders through the preserve, allowing visitors to enjoy the views and birdwatching from roadside pullouts anytime without appointment. Please drive very cautiously, this is a one lane winding road with very limited sight lines.
