How can I obtain permission to hike on the Preserves?

Take part in a monthly Access Orientation to learn about the Modini Mayacamas Preserves and gain a permit to hike the Preserves independently. View the online calendar for hike dates and access orientations.

What is there to do at the Modini Mayacamas Preserves?

Hiking is allowed only with permit or on a staff-guided hike, but Pine Flat Road pullouts are always open for taking in the views and birdwatching. Enjoy nature photography, birdwatching, wildflowers, geology and other nature studies, but collecting is prohibited.

How much do you charge?

There is no fee to visit the Preserves but donations are encouraged and appreciated as they support ACR's preservation, education and conservation science programs.

Are there guided tours?

Yes. View the online calendar for upcoming guided hikes, or opt in to our monthly notification list by emailing the preserve naturalist.

Is there food or water available on the Preserves?


Do we have overnight accommodations for the visiting public? 

No, we have no overnight facilities.

Can the site be rented for weddings and events? 

No, we have no facilities.

Are you still open if it rains? 


Are dogs allowed on the Preserves? 

Sorry, no dogs or other pets are allowed on the Preserves except for service animals, i.e., any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability.

Please note that there is no smoking on the Preserves.
