Prescribed Fire Specialist, Fire Forward Program, Glen Ellen, CA (pdf)
Audubon Canyon Ranch (ACR) seeks a Prescribed Fire Specialist for its Fire Forward Initiative, a regional cooperative effort to bring about a new approach to fire management in the North San Francisco Bay area -- one that acknowledges our fire-adapted and fire-dependent landscapes and incorporates this understanding into all aspects of our regional culture. ACR is partnering with public and private agencies across the region, state and country to increase the pace and scale of fuels treatments using a cooperative approach.

The Prescribed Fire Specialist will work with the Fire Forward Program Director and ACR’s science and stewardship staff to build a regional cooperative fire management program. He or she will identify and assess units for prescribed fire or other fuels treatments on ACR lands and on the lands of our partner agencies and land owners/managers, write burn plans and smoke management plans, interface with CAL FIRE and other fire agencies, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and other permitting agencies, and neighbors and community members. He or she will also maintain fire equipment and hire or recruit crew members as needed.

This is a fast-growing new program with excellent growth potential for a motivated fire professional who is passionate about the role of fire in California ecosystems, has direct experience planning and implementing prescribed fire and other fuels treatments, and is able to hit the ground running.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in fire science or forestry and/or at least 5 years of experience (seasonal or full-time) in prescribed fire implementation. The ideal candidate would have certified qualifications as a Burn Boss (RXB1), Firing Crew Leader, or Registered Professional Forester.

We will start reviewing applications on April 9, and on a rolling basis after that until position is filled. Please submit your resume and a cover letter as one or two attachment(s) to an email. Send the email to acr@egret.org with “Prescribed Fire Job” as the subject line. If you have questions about the position or ACR contact Jeanne.Wirka@egret.org. Please no phone calls.
